Receiving a degree in finance from Jacksonville State University in 1978, Rick became a part owner in a convenience store chain in South Florida between 1978 and 1986. In 1986, Rick and his wife Paula received a call from the Lord to go into full time ministry. After leaving Florida, Rick received a Masters of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He has pastored a church in Southwest Virginia and started a campus ministry, which ministered to university students at Radford University and Virginia Tech. He is currently an elder in Dwelling Place Christian Fellowship in Blacksburg, Virginia. Dwelling Place is a church that ministers to the community of Blacksburg and to the campus of Virginia Tech. Rick's desire is for God's people to intimately experience the fullness of God and see them built up, and released as sons and daughters of their Heavenly Father. He directs an internship program that disciples people who are interested in learning how to minister to others through the church or on the campus. Rick also teaches the Word of God in other churches, campuses, retreats, and conferences. Rick's heart is to see the releasing of God's people into a life of victory in Christ and equipping those same people to minister that victory to others. Rick and Paula have two children, Shea 21 and Michele 17.
